We all trek through different seasons in our lifetime. As I type these very words my heart hangs a little heavy knowing that I am currently walking through a season of waiting. This isn’t a first for me and when I say my ‘heart is heavy’ it’s not in a bad way, it’s in a full, about to burst way. The reality is, I know what seasons of waiting bring, they bring absolute beauty.
Often when we wait, the Enemy tries to distract us with doubt, self-entitlement, frustration, and even anger because things don’t seem to be working out the very way we want them to. However, we must remember God’s thoughts and ways are not like ours, they are so, so, so much higher. He has a plan, sweet friend and it’s going to be oh so great. Just trust Him!
I’m sharing a little excerpt from my book Shattered written about a season of waiting for financial provision. It wasn’t the most fun season I’ve traveled through, as a matter of fact, it was really hard, and I wanted to throw in the towel more times than I can count. But this waiting season taught me God’s beauty and greatness for my life are brought about through obedience and trust. I’m sharing this because I am confident what happened for me, can happen for you.
Let me fill you in a bit on this time in our lives. My husband had resigned from a comfortable job to start his own business. My sickness hit during our one year of no income and no insurance due to the new career choice. Multiple trips to the emergency room and multiple admittance in the hospital were beginning to add up. After all the hospital stays, neurologist appointments, MRI’s, blood work, and multiple other tests, no one could tell me why my limbs would suddenly fail me. There was no one answer as to why, multiple times a day, I would instantly become so weak that I couldn’t stand. No one had a clue why my body would twitch uncontrollably for hours on end. Nothing! Not one idea as to what was wrong except that something was.
So, there we were, broke as a joke, sick as a dog, two little kids, a home, and a whole lot of debt. I cannot tell you what claiming God’s promises over our lives during this season did for us. Like I’ve said time and time again, this is not magic, positive affirmation, genie in a bottle stuff. It’s simply God’s truth. I wrote out truths that I found in God’s word regarding finances and posted them everywhere, along with all the other truths I was meditating on. All I can tell you is that something very powerful takes place when you begin to speak God’s word over your life. As you begin to speak it, it takes root in your head and heart and you begin to believe it, like really truly believe it for you. It’s not long after the belief settles in that you will begin to experience His greatness in whatever area you are believing Him for.
Some of the things that happened to us during this season are unexplainable. One instance, in particular, has to do with a very large hospital bill that we had been paying on for quite some time. This was a substantial bill from one of my bought of sickness. Obviously, we didn’t have this kind of cash sitting around in our bank account. One day, I called to increase our payment. We had made arrangements and were paying the bare minimum a month. I burst into tears when I heard what the lady on the other end of the phone said. We had a zero balance. She didn’t know why, but the balance that would have taken a lifetime for us to pay off at the rate we were paying on it was miraculously eliminated. It was gone. Zeroed out. Literally, no way to describe what happened there, except a miracle. An absolutely amazing miracle! I’m not promising that your debt will miraculously disappear, but I am suggesting that God will work in mysterious ways.
Y’all, God provided in ways we could have never imagined through the season of waiting mentioned above (there is way more to this story in my book: Shattered). And the fruit that was harvested from this season of growth was worth every second of the wait.
If you find yourself waiting for a breakthrough, my challenge to you would be to:
- Trust God
- Ask for wisdom
- Do what He asks
- AND speak the Word of God over your life (Get you some notecards, fill them with scripture, and put those babies everywhere!)
Be bold and confident that you are God’s child and he has greatness to lavish you with, my friends. Waiting well is totally possible. I believe wholeheartedly that once you taste the sweetness of the fruit it produces, your heart too will hang a bit heavier in your next season of waiting, only because it is bending from the weight of all the excitement over what’s in store.
