It was a soul destroying, murder most foul,
It was a mystery.
How could he get away with it?
Bit by bit,
Pieces were taken away,
Till, but a few remained.
But that was all she needed.
A starting point,
One by one,
She put the pieces back.
Stronger than ever before,
Woven together with love.
Love for herself, her mind, body and soul.
An unconditional love that cannot be taken away.
She refuses to be treated the same.
As now she knows her worth.
Many will come and go,
Some will be inspired by her strength.
Others, intimidated.
Still, she continues to grow
Building on strong foundations,
Upon a faith formed years ago.
Feeling secure in her knowledge and wisdom.
The knowledge that someone has been before her,
To light the way.
And that she is not alone.
For there is a redeemer, a restorer, a healer
Who can renew her to a level that no man or woman can do.
So she draws upon her faith,
Tears fall down as she prays.
For her spirit to be renewed,
And joy to be returned.
Now she can clearly see,
How she was meant to be.
All the pieces are in their place.
Held together by the Holy Spirit’s love,
And God’s grace.
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
1 Peter 5:10 NIV
There may come a time in your life when you need to rebuild or start over. There are many reasons why that could happen: the loss of a loved one, bankruptcy or a relationship breakdown, to name a few. The life you knew could have been slowly falling down or it could have come crashing down. You just know that when you look into the mirror, you barely recognise the face staring back. But you may only realise how far you have fallen after hitting the bottom and acceptance sets in.
But do not despair. One thing that will help you is having faith in God, and the knowledge that he will bring you through troubled times. A good support system of people who also share your faith is important, as they can pray with you and for you and help you to see yourself as they see you, as God sees you. You are not broken, beyond repair or damaged goods. Whatever has happened to you, it does not define who you are.
As it says in Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (NIV)
We are reminded that God does not abandon anyone. He will not abandon you, regardless of what has happened in your life. His compassion and mercy is new every morning. Start each day with a fresh outlook. Remember this: God will restore you, renew you and give you strength you didn’t know was possible.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for your everlasting love and grace. Please heal my wounds and restore me, so that I may show others the greatness of Your love and mercy. Let the strength that comes from You overflow to others who need it too.
