As I sat and meditated on the words, What does it look like to have Jesus at the center of my life? I was reminded of a question Jesus once posed to His disciples. “Who do you say I am?” Of all the disciples, only Peter had a different answer, one that surprised Jesus, I imagine (Matthew 16:13-17). He said, “You are The Messiah.” How powerful it is to get a revelation of the Savior who’s been standing in front of you all along.
How powerful it is to get a revelation of the Savior who’s been standing in front of you all along.
You see, a while back I was like many who go to church. I’d go for a fresh wind and perspective then go back into my everyday life of being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. I thought Jesus was for Sundays. I didn’t realize that I needed to have an encounter so deep it would take the scales off the eyes of my heart–a Damascus Road moment in which God Himself reveals who He is to you.
When you have a revelation of His love, you don’t want to go anywhere without it. Moses even said, “If your presence doesn’t go with us, I don’t want to go.” (Exodus 33:15) When you’ve encountered the living God, you will want to include Him in your life–in the center of all your relationships and daily duties.
In a similar way, I know that if Jesus isn’t in the center of my everyday life, then it’ll only lead me to a place of self-sufficiency. I’ll try to control every single outcome, and when the plans don’t go my way, it’ll leave me disappointed, empty, and thinking of a new plan or strategy to do what only He can.
When He’s at the center of everything, you know how essential it is to spend time with Him every single day and understand He goes everywhere. God doesn’t stay in the Sunday morning service or in a secret place. The Bible says, He dwells in us. His presence is always with us. God wants to be part of our everyday lives. He loves us that much.
God wants to be part of our everyday lives. He loves us that much.
When Peter had the revelation of who Jesus was it changed Him. Messiah means deliverer, leader, savior, the anointed one who can break any chain. He can do anything at any moment. When you realize that you have that chain-breaking anointing on the inside of you, it’ll open your eyes to a whole new reality, one that recognizes: as long as Jesus is in the middle of my day, everything will be ok. When Jesus is at the center, He will give you peace, comfort, strength, wisdom, grace, love, and confidence to do what you need to do every day. We don’t have to try to control everything or strive for the next best thing that we think will satisfy us. All we have to do is yield our heart and mind to the one who has the best in mind for us.
Living in a place of surrender to Jesus has taught me to release control and trust Him. Our God isn’t one who stays behind on Sunday at church, but He goes with us everywhere, including places we think we can hide from Him or filter out the blemishes. I learned that He’s been with me in the middle of addiction, anxiety, and loneliness. You name it He’s been there because this is who He is. Our Messiah.
People will fail you, reject you, and overlook you but God never will. He will always be there. That’s why I trust Him and keep Him at the center because I know that Jesus will overflow into every area of my life. As I stay yielded in a position of transparency, and keep Him apart of every single area of my life, including the ones He’s still working on, then He will continue to come through every single time.
