For today’s Writers Wednesday, we’re talking about the word “hope” and what that means for us as writers. For believers, hope is the confident expectation of God’s faithfulness to His promises. Hope is found in who God is: His goodness, His kindness, His loving nature, His victory. This is what empowers us to keep going when nothing around us looks like we thought it would and nothing in our lives is going according to plan.
This is an important thing for writers to remember. Writing is hard; it just is. Going from a thought, to a message, to paper, to the world is not an easy process, and there are many ups and downs along the way. Whether you’re writing a book, running a blog, or contributing to publications, you are bound to get discouraged in your writing at some point. Maybe you once thought you had a message to get out, but now you’re overcome by writers’ block. Maybe you’ve got a completed manuscript in your hands, but getting it published has proven to be a lot harder than expected. Maybe you’ve got a beautiful piece just begging to be printed, but you can’t seem to find the right magazine or journal to release it.
Maybe you haven’t yet found a community that supports your writing. There could be people in your life that don’t believe in your dreams as a writer and don’t see the value in your message. We at UNITED HOUSE believe in a life-giving, encouraging, supportive writing community, and we want to lift up all the writers out there and tell you that your message matters. Your words matter. If God is a part of your writing process, you have hope in the fulfillment of His promise to you, that He will use you to impact the world with your words.
So keep on writing. Dare to hope for something new, to dream of telling your story and of all that God has done. Don’t shrink who God is to match your current experience. He is faithful, therefore cannot be unfaithful, because He is unchanging. It only takes one moment of revelation, one “yes” from someone who believes in you, one door opened by God to change everything.
Let hope rise. His plans for you are bigger than anything you could ever dream up. He is always better than we think He is.
